Some Offer SMP -

I Specialize In It.

I am not the only artist that offers this treatment, so it’s important to distinguish the service I offer from the others out there to illustrate why I believe the treatment that I offer is superior and provides my clients with the best, most natural-looking results.

Specialization

Scalp Micropigmentation is the only service that I offer, allowing me to specialize in it. The importance of this is often overlooked so I like to use an analogy to really drive this home:

If you broke your hand, would you rather go to an on-call surgeon who performs hand surgery every once-in-a-while, or a hand surgeon that does it day-in and day-out, and knows everything there is to know about that specific procedure?

I believe the best results come from specializing in this treatment and that is why I’ve adopted this mentality. Focusing on this one treatment allows me to perform it and practice it daily, from client work, to practice sessions, to continued education, training and seminars. I strive to be the best I can be, so I can provide the best results for my clients.

Density Matching

This is a big one. If the appropriate cartridges aren’t used, nothing else will make a difference - the result will not turn out like you were expecting. A telltale sign of a treatment that doesn’t look natural is if the impressions that are made do not resemble natural hair density. Unfortunately, there are a lot of artists that will use a larger cartridge to reduce the amount of time that needs to be spent to finish the treatment, and the client is the one that suffers.

I would rather take a little bit longer and produce a far superior and natural-looking result, which is why I utilize a variety of cartridge sizes to match the density of the hair I am blending into. Yes, it takes more time, precision, and skill, but the end result is well worth it.

Precision Technique

Putting pigment into the skin isn’t difficult, but doing it in a way that will produce seamless and natural scalp micropigmentation results is. SMP revolves around depositing thousands of replicated follicles into a finite area, within a depth that leaves very little margin for error. How little is the margin? We’re talking about fractions of millimeters!

Every impression that is made is done so with absolute precision and planning to ensure that the result is exceptional. When you’re working within such precise parameters, it’s easy to differentiate between someone who isn’t as experienced and an absolute specialist.

Color Matching

A customized pigment blend is made for each client based on their complexion and hair color to ensure an even match. If you’ve ever tried painting a wall in your house before, you know how important it is to be precise with color matching. This is even more difficult when it comes to pigment in the skin, as different colors can heal with different hues. I am very conservative with the first session so that I can learn the anatomy of your skin and adjust the hue of the pigment to ensure that the appropriate color remains when the treatment heals - very few artists do this!

Not only do I customize the color to match your existing hair and adjust the hues to account for healing, but I take it a step further by creating additional shades within a narrow range of your natural color and blending that to make the result that much more natural-looking.

Integrity

At the top of the page, I mentioned that some “do SMP”, while I specialize in it. The unfortunate reality is that an overwhelming amount of practitioners got into this industry for what I believe is the wrong reason - money. When money is the focus and motivation, especially pertaining to a treatment like this, a lot of the components that go into a superior result are sacrificed. Here are a few examples:

Omitting options that may be a better fit - Someone who truly has your best interests in mind will tell you if this treatment is actually a good fit to achieve your goals. The truth is, it isn’t always the best option, and a practitioner without integrity (or the proper knowledge) may steer you toward a less ideal option.

My approach - I will happily discuss all of the different options that are available to you, and even talk you OUT of doing SMP if I feel that it is not the proper fit for you. I’ve had my own experience with this situation before and wouldn’t wish it upon anyone. Things like this will make it very clear that your artist has your best interests in mind.

Speed becomes the priority over quality - Practitioners will try to obtain a “final result” in less sessions, which doesn’t allow for the optimal blending and color matching. Additionally, it increases the risk of migration and pooling of the pigment, which can cause permanent damage and discoloration.

My approach -

I would rather the final result take 5 sessions and achieve far superior results than try to cram it into 2 or 3. Quality over speed, always. I would rather make less money and have a track record and portfolio of happy clients and incredible work than the other way around.

Cheap/Inadequate equipment is used - Doing things the right way has a cost, from cartridges, to machines, to sanitary practices, and much, much more. Cutting corners to make more money is something that takes place far too often.

My approach - My choices in equipment are based purely on what will give my clients the best results. I will happily spend more money on equipment and supplies to provide a comfortable and sanitary setting for my clients while they receive an exceptional result. If your practitioner cuts corners with equipment used for your treatment, who’s to say they didn’t cut corners when it came to proper training, licensing, or sanitary procedure? It’s a very slippery slope when you’re working with someone who operates under that mentality.

Personal Experience

It makes a world of difference to work with someone who has personal experience with the subject you are discussing. I have “gone through the trenches” in the hair loss industry myself, from going through consultations with slimy salesmen, to being deceived by marketing gimmicks, to unknowingly working with inexperienced practitioners, to painful procedures that scarred me for life (both mentally and physically), and everything in between.

There is so much to go into here that I’ve made a separate page that goes into much more detail (check out “Meet The Artist”, if you’re curious). The point being, if it involves hair loss, I likely know about it or have gone through it myself. This allows me to provide first-hand experience in our consultation and go through all of your options, not just this one.

At the end of the day, I want to prevent people from going down the path that I did to reach their goals, and I’m happy to share my experiences to assist you in doing that.

No Pressure, Free Consultation w/ The Artist Themself

While many companies might offer a free consultation, there are very few artists that do their own consultations. Most of the time you are speaking with a salesperson whose job it is to try to convince you to do the treatment. Many times, clients aren’t even sure who is doing their actual treatment until they show up at the studio, which is a frightening thought.

Here at SMP Mastery in Seattle, I will personally be speaking with you and discussing your goals. I will provide you with information that very few other artists are willing or able to do, based on my personal experience not only in the industry, but as a person that continues to deal with hair loss myself.

I will never try to convince you to choose one option or another, and as I mentioned above, I will happily steer you away from an option if I don’t feel like it’s going to help you achieve your goals, even if it’s the service that I offer. At the end of our discussion, you will be armed with enough knowledge to make the decision that’s best for you and your goals.
